RMA Honors Tire Makers for Worker Safety Achievements

The US Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) has recognized six tire manufacturers for excellence and improvements in worker health and safety as part of its Safety and Health Improvement Program (SHIP).
Two categories of awards are presented to companies that demonstrate workplace safety excellence and improvements, which are measured by the incidence rate for lost workday cases. The Excellence category is for facilities that achieve a Days Away Restricted Transfer (DART) rate that is 75% better than the average achieved by plants that provided data to RMA.

The Improvement award is for plants that achieve a Days Away Restricted Transfer (DART) rate that is both 10% better than its rate in the previous year, and is the same or better than the RMA average incidence rate.

Excellence awards were presented to Bridgestone America facilities in Griffin, GA; Oxford, NC; and
Trenton, SC; the Cooper Tire and Rubber facility in Clarksdale, MI; and Michelin facilities in Starr, SC and
Anderson, SC; and Yokohama Tire in West Point, MS.

Improvement awards were presented to Bridgestone plants in Graniteville, SC; Russellville, AR; and
Abilene, TX; the Cooper Tire and Rubber facility in Tupelo, MS; and the Michelin North America locations in
Spartanburg, SC; Columbia, SC; Lexington, SC; and Covington, GA. Goodyear Tire and Rubber facilities in
Fayetteville, NC; Gadsden, AL; Lawton, OK; and Social Circle, GA also received Improvement awards
along with Toyo Tire Holdings of America in White, GA.

Forty-five plants from RMA member companies supplied data for the annual survey to be eligible for
awards, RMA said.
