Session V: Future of Tire Manufacturing and Testing

  1. Multibody Dynamic Simulations

    Chris Coker | Senior Program Manager of Altair

    Multibody Dynamics Simulation is often used to simulate durability loads. These models typically use detailed, high fidelity tire models. Often the requirements for these tire models can make their use prohibitive early in the vehicle development process. Altair has recently developed a durability tire model for use with MotionSolve that uses reduced input requirements, and is computationally efficient compared to the existing commercially available high fidelity tire models.

  2. Dynamic Tire Pressure Mapping

    Tim Gorjanc | Senior Research Scientist of XSENSOR Technology Corporation

    Static tire pressure mapping is a well-known technology and is commonly used throughout the industry. Recently, XSENSOR has developed the technology to enable dynamic tire pressure mapping.  This technology allows the end user to capture how the tire dynamically interacts with the surface at speeds in excess of 140kph such as leading edge, contact patch, trailing edge, pressure distribution, etc.  Additionally, dynamic data that can quantify wheel alignment parameters rather than only relying on subjective driver feedback is now possible.  Vehicle and suspension dynamics such as vibration dampening, cornering, body roll, and downforce pressure can now be quantified and compared against FEA modeling. In this presentation, we introduce the concept of capacitive pressure imaging and detail some of the advances in the high speed pressure imaging technology that XSENSOR has developed and show some real world examples of passenger cars, motorcycles, and Semi trucks.
